About my brand
Stephanie Williams Phillips
I am a London-based fashion designer who grew up in the Caribbean of Jamaica, where I saw my mom and auntie working as seamstresses. Being inspired by their work, my passion and my love for fashion and textiles developed from an early age. I started studying the subject at secondary school and further my knowledge in Pattern Cutting and Grading, Garment Construction, and embraced Machine Embroidery as a specialism.
I have a Master's Degree in creative Pattern Making, a BA(Hons) in Fashion Design and Production, a PGCE in Further Education and a QTLS teacher status.
I have been teaching level 2 and 3 UAL Art and Design (fashion) for years, which I enjoy. Sharing my knowledge and experience with my students creates an amazing learning opportunity for them.
SAWRAP is my fashion label, named to reflect my personality and the places I grew up in - Jamaica.
The word SAWRAP is a combination of initials from my daughter and my own name and was established in 1998, a time when I was deliberating to open a womenswear garments construction school in Jamaica.
The image of the hummingbird is part of my logo, as it is my island's national bird and a reflection of our colourful culture.
History
In 2017, I took part in the Croydon School Of Art fashion exhibition show for final year BA Fashion students. Where I displayed my first collection.
